We are a women's a cappella group based in London. Our recipes include generous handfuls of popular song with a reasonable pinch of folk, several cups of holiday songs and Christmas carols for our winter spread and a light sprinkling of Mozart, Elgar and Bach at all times of year.
There are 11 of us currently. (We'll try and ease off on the culinary theme now!)
Back in the late '80s, a group of musically inclined women got together in London to exchange some of the arrangements they had sung with their US university a cappella groups. The Treblemakers were born! By now our group has developed a flavourful transatlantic mix.
Over close to 25 years we have had many memorable ones.....but a couple of recent unforgettable ones include:
We have a large back catalogue of arrangements with a year-round repertoire ranging from Mozart (Marriage of Figaro Overture) through Barbershop and show tunes (Diamonds are a Girl's Best Friend, Lullaby of Broadway) to The Beatles, Queen and Elton John. In addition, we have a wide and varied Christmas repertoire.
Each year one of our greatest challenges is agreeing on which selection will form the meat of that season's repertoire and then which new songs we will arrange and add to the stew.
We love singing together and we love the rich friendship that this has engendered. We are more than colleagues – we are very good friends and this helps our sound enormously. We know each other well and can read one another, which of course leads to a better musical result.
To continue to sing, to work at improving our sound and our performance technique, and to continue to please both our regular supporters and open up new venues for performing and raising money for charity. And above all, to have fun with it!!
The Vocal Line Workshop was highly nutritious – and inspired us to cook up our own arrangement of Viva la Vida. We also enjoy the smorgasbord of groups introduced by Sing A Cappella events and are thrilled that a cappella is finally catching on in the UK.
We are always open to encountering that special new ingredient! We rehearse Tuesday mornings in central or south west London.
