London based a cappella group The Refrains are looking for new members. We love the Refrains in Sing a Cappella! and this is a great opportunity for competant singers/beatboxers.
This information is from their Facebook page:
Do you regularly blast off a killer rendition of The One And Only in the shower? Have you always secretly imagined yourself on the X Factor? Got the voice, but not the stage? Or did you used to sing regularly and you don't know where you are without it?
Well then, The Refrains want YOU...
(Or do you know anyone like this? Then the Refrains want THEM! So please spread the link far and wide...)
THE REFRAINS EH? WHO ARE YOU THEN?
The Refrains are an award-winning mixed a cappella group (that's unaccompanied singing) of mainly twenty-somethings, based in London. Founded in 2011 by singers and beatboxers from the likes of the International Championship of Collegiate A Cappella, Last Choir Standing and Britain's Got Talent favourites Out of the Blue, we have a combined total of over 70 years a cappella experience - although we also have members who are new to a cappella.
"A group so often spotlighted as 'one to watch' they're probably bored of it by now" - Sing A Cappella
"That's how you do it" - Clare Wheeler, Swingle Singers
We perform in London and elsewhere at a variety of public and private gigs, weddings, functions and at our own sold-out concerts. Our repertoire covers pop, rock, jazz, classical, original compositions and everything in between, and we arrange much of our own music (so what we sing and where is up to us). Check out the below for more info:
The Refrains rehearse once a week, on Wednesday evenings, in Kings Cross, with extra rehearsals in the run up to big gigs. And we like a beer after - it's a social thing too!
YOU HAD ME AT BEER... SO WHAT ARE YOU LOOKING FOR?
- Both male and female singers to join our mixed group.
- People with a good level of musicality. You may have done a lot of singing before (our backgrounds cover choral, musical theatre, opera and even rock bands). Or perhaps you've always hidden your light under an only-at-karaoke bushel. EXPERIENCE IS NOT REQUIRED (just willingness to have a go!). But either way you'll have a great ear and be able to pick music up quickly.
- Along with that, decent sightreading skills. And you'll be ok with holding your own in complex harmony, as the arrangements we learn are intricate and can often be one-to-a-part.
- Willingness to rock out on stage and have a lot of fun performing. The Refrains aren't just about standing there and singing. This is where vocal agility and performance collide!
- Commitment to weekly rehearsals. This isn't a choir, it's a singing group where every voice really matters, so we want you there!
- If you're interested in beatboxing and/or having a go at arranging music, that's a bonus!
I'M SOLD! HOW DO I SIGN UP?
BUT I DON'T LIKE AUDITIONS... SHOULD I BE AFRAID?!
No! We are really chilled. And we know auditions aren't fun, we hate auditioning ourselves! The auditions will involve a quick warm up, singing a prepared song so we can hear you sing something you know well confidently; a very short piece of sight-singing; and an opportunity to sing with the group so we can hear you blend and respond.
Your first audition will probably just be to a couple of Refrains and we promise to make it as quick and painless as possible. You've got nothing to lose!
DON'T GO! I'VE GOT A QUESTION!
